biography of Marguérite Putsage

Marguerite Putsage received her first drawing lessons from Auguste Danse, founder of the École de Gravure in Mons. Her work shows a strong affinity with the work of the French painter Eugène Carrière, whom she admired and often met in Paris, in Bouillon or in Mons (Belgium) with the sculptor Louis Devillez. Devillez, as well as Carrière, have inspired her with their advice. Putsage's dim style and vague outlines with which she created an atmosphere of intimacy are reminiscent of Carrière. Her oeuvre consists mainly of flower still lifes, landscapes, figures, nudes and very vivid and characteristically executed portraits.
