biography of Maurice Guilbert

Maurice Guilbert's work is intense in colour, spontaneously conceived and permeated by solar heat. The artist, born in Mons in 1876, is one of the painters who are considered Belgian luminists under the influence of the southern French light. During the First World War, Guilbert fled to The Hague, where he brought Belgian art in exile to the attention of enthusiasts and collectors with a small group of like-minded people.
