Pierre-Louis Kühnen, also known as Pieter Lodewijk Kühnen, was a romantic painter through and through. He was born in Aachen and learned to paint in Brussels, where he lived and worked for the rest of his life. The artist became known for very sensitive landscapes, usually at sunset or moonlight, some of which were upholstered by the cattle painter Eugène Verboeckhoven.
