Pieter Apol was an architect, draftsman and painter. Few works of his are known. We also do not know whether he has received any training. He wrote several collections of short stories for De Beuk and De Boekerij publishers. His wife, Anna Cornelia Boelhouwer, known as Anni Apol after her marriage, made a name for herself as a collage artist, painter and textile artist. Together they had four children, all of them worked in the visual arts.
