biography of Pietronella Peters

Pietronella Peters came from a well-known family of artists. Her father was the Dutch landscape painter Pieter Franciscus Peters, who moved to Germany in 1841 and lived there for the rest of his life. Two of her sisters made a name for themselves as painters: Anna Peters became a well-known flower painter, Ida Peters specialized in painting landscapes. She herself painted figure and genre scenes, usually with children as subjects. Her work was much loved for the way she portrayed them, engrossed in a merry game or imitating the world of adults. The genre was not limited to Germany but was found all over Europe. A well-known interpreter in the Netherlands was the painter Jan Marie ten Kate.
