Salomon Garf enjoyed a solid art training at the Amsterdam Academy under the professors Allebé, Dake and Van der Waay before settling in Blaricum in 1903. His typical Laren genre scenes, figurative works and portraits sold well in the Larense Kunsthandel, the local gallery. He painted still lifes purely for his own pleasure and these clearly show his immense artistic talent, as do his fashionable portraits and figure pieces.
