biography of 'Siebe' Johannes ten Cate

Siebe ten Cate, the son of the mayor from Sneek, went to Paris in 1883, like other young painters of his time. He devoted himself to painting city life, the boulevards, the Seine, the working-class districts, which were exhibited in renowned art dealers. While traveling through Europe (including Switzerland) and North Africa, he painted and drew many landscapes.
