Belgian by birth, Victor Bauffe attended the art academy in The Hague, where he made the acquaintance of the Hague School painter J.H. Weissenbruch, who became his friend and mentor. Bauffe accompanied Weissenbruch on all his ramblings through the Dutch lakes region around Noorden and Kortenhoef, portraying the water, boggy pastures, farmyards and sleepy villages in their seasonal light and ephemeral mood. His preferred medium was watercolour. His work can be found at the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague, the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem and in other collections.
