Waldemar Otto was educated at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin and has lived and worked in Worpswede in North Germany since 1976. The artist works in themes, of which the Torsi are part. He depicts the human body, themes from classical antiquity return in various forms. He works from nature, but abstracts. Otto's sculptures are in public spaces in various German cities, including the stock exchange building in Hamburg. In 2009, on his 80th birthday, a major exhibition was dedicated to his work at the Gerhard Marcks Haus in Bremen.
