The great innovation in the design of furniture and utensils that started in Europe around 1900 led to the establishment of countless workshops for furniture, textiles and metalwork. One of these was the Werkstätten Hagenauer metal workshop in Vienna, which was run by the goldsmith Carl Hagenauer and his son Karl. The latter had studied with Josef Hofmann. After 1928, until the fifties, this studio produced household utensils as well as furniture and small, stylized bronze sculptures, which were exported all over the world.
