Xeno Münninghoff was a race impressionist. His artistic views are similar to those of his painter friend Theophile de Bock, with whom he spent a lot of time when he came to live in Renkum in 1896. The varied nature of the southern Veluwezoom was an inexhaustible source of inspiration for both and they painted as much as possible in nature. Münninghoff was mainly busy with the influence of light on shapes and color nuances. His paintings are spacious, with full colors and he was generous in his use of paint.
