Though he completed his artistic training at the academy in The Hague, Ferry Slebe regarded himself as self-taught. Abandoning all he had learned, he evolved a lyrical figural style in still lifes and gay, carefree canvases. In the 1950s he was a member of Verve, a group of experimental painters in The Hague.
