Gerard Christiaan Joseph Gerrits

A frog
linocut on paper 16.0 x 16.0 cm, signed l.r.

Gerard Gerrits lived and worked in Den Bosch and was educated there at the drawing academy. He started out as an ornament designer, but later also became a graphic artist, glazier and watercolorist. Gerard Gerrits was less known than his brother Piet Gerrits, but like his brother he made a number of drawings for the cover of the magazine 'De Engelbewaarder'. Gerrits was apprenticed to his brother for some time and assisted him with his last wall painting. In 1921 the art dealers F. Wilemsem in den Bosch organized an exhibition of his work and in 1960, one year after his death, a commemoration exhibition was held in Sprang-Capelle
