The Belgian-born sculptress Josje van Riemsdijk was educated at the academies in The Hague and Amsterdam, and was taught by Jan Bronner (1881-1972). Her oeuvre shows a preference for the human figure - especially children and women - and animals, which she depicts in bronze in a figurative-impressionist style. She claims to have been influenced in her work by the images of Marino Marini and Henry Moore. Van Riemsdijk was a member of the Dutch Circle of Sculptors and the Pulchri Studio artists' society in The Hague.
