Robbert Jan Donker has been called a sculptor who tries to capture the 'real' and characteristic of his subject in bronze or stone. His work is characterized by figuration and versatility; he creates human figures, reliefs, mosaics, medals, portraits, but above all animals. He was educated at the academy in Rotterdam. It was once said of his work: ‘Dark animal figures [are] playful, delicate, graceful and often witty (…) All his creations are images that radiate the love he feels for his subjects. In a positive sense, Robbert-Jan is one of the few 'old-fashioned' sculptors still: realistic with an impressionistic soul.'
