Wilhelm Albertus Lammers, a self-taught painter, specialized in scenes with poultry. He mainly painted the animals in their natural environment, the stable or the meadow. Until the end of the 19th century, little attention was paid to housing and caring for poultry. Chickens usually slept in a haystack or in trees. The painter managed to capture this vividly on the canvas. His work hangs in the Harderwijk City Museum, among other places.
