Adriaan Timmers painted and drew predominantly realistic still-lifes, but he also made landscapes and interiors. As of 1927 he participated at all exhibitions of 'De Onafhankelijken' (The Independants), a group of artists that strived for freedom of working and exhibiting. Timmers was self-taught. Until 1902 he lived and worked in Rotterdam and afterwards he settled in Wormerveer.
