Adrienne van Hogendorp-‘s Jacob, apprentice of Margaretha Roosenboom, initially painted flower still life, as did more girls from the better class. However, she turned out to have talent. Already at a young age she exhibited and sold her still lives of flowers and fruits at the exhibitions of Living Masters. From 1866 her paintings were also sold through the Hague firm Goupil, just like those of the Hague painters Alida Stolk, Gerardina van de Sande Bakhuyzen and Margaretha Roosenboom.
