Alexander Weise is best known as a landscape painter. His favourite subject was the overwhelming nature of the Bavarian Alps, the area around Garmisch and the Berchtesgadener Land, both in summer and winter. Born in Odessa, Weise was educated around 1908 at the Munich Academy, where he was taught by the painter-illustrator Angelo Jank, among others, and completed his studies in Paris. The landscapes of Weise bear witness to a fine feeling for the characteristic light and atmosphere of the mountain world.
