Amandus Faure was a high-spirited German painter with a love of the artistic life, and particularly the world of the circus and music halls. He also painted flower still lifes and interiors with figures. After completing his training at the art academy in Stuttgart, Faure travelled extensively through Italy, Spain, France, the Netherlands and Morocco. Painted in dark, saturated colours, animated here and there with accents of bright light, his pictures are often permeated with the sensuality of living at full tilt.
