Anna Maria Braakensiek-Dekker is counted among the Dutch expressionists. She received her education at the academies of Antwerp and Paris. In 1917 she settled in Amsterdam where she was taught by Piet van Wijngaerdt, among others. Her landscapes, portraits and cityscapes are free and direct, with colour as her main means of expression. During her life she made many trips to Greece, Turkey, Italy and France, which is reflected in her work.
