biography of 'Anna' Emilia Wengberg

Impressionist Anna Wengberg was born in 1865 in Ystad (Sweden). Wengberg was trained by Edvard Perséus; he taught at his own successful private painting school in Stockholm. It was through him that Wengberg came into contact with Impressionism. Wengberg was part of the so-called Önningeby colony, a group of Finnish and Swedish artists who settled in Åland from 1886. The beautiful nature of the island appealed to many artists, who mainly painted en plein air. Today, several of her paintings can be admired in the National Museum of Fine Arts in Stockholm.
