Anton Dirckx's oeuvre chiefly comprises impressionistic paintings of landscapes, towns and harbours in oil and watercolour, with a particular fascination for Dutch bulb fields in bloom. After completing his training at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Rotterdam, he made a study trip to Italy that provided inspiration for numerous paintings. Anton Dirckx frequently collaborated with Adriaan de la Rivière and was also a graphic artist (etcher).
