Arie Leeflang lived and worked in Rotterdam all his life and followed a painting course at the Academy of Fine Arts there. As an artist, he found inspiration in the continuous activity in and around the ports of this city and in shipping traffic on the Meuse. His love for ships and water also led to a number of harbor views of the small fishing villages around the IJsselmeer. In addition, landscapes, cityscapes and portraits were the painter's favorite subjects. In addition to his artistry, Leeflang was a teacher at the Rotterdam academy for many years.
