Fernando Bergallo was born in Montevideo and attended art school there. In 1963 he founded the Taller Montevideo together with Hector Vilchem, which moved to Amsterdam in 1973 because of the inspiring and free-spirited cultural climate. The Taller Amsterdam was involved in diverse art forms such as music, dance, architecture, film, music, literature and video. In the 1980s, the collective organized music theater productions, a kind of installations that combined visual art, music, dance, theater and opera. In the meantime, Bergallo was also a painter and sculptor. In 2004 the Taller Amsterdam came to an end. Bergallo moved to Lalandusse in France, where he concentrated solely on painting, both abstract and figurative.
