As a skilled landscape painter of the Romantic school, Arnoldus van 't Zant mainly produces wooded and mountainous landscapes and cityscapes, mostly of Deventer. He was born in this city in 1815 and attended the drawing school. He received painting lessons from J.J. Vredenburg and Louis Meijer, with whom he made several art trips. Van 't Zant became an art teacher himself and exhibited his work in Amsterdam, The Hague, Deventer and Zwolle, among others. Museum De Waag in Deventer has drawings, lithographs and paintings by the artist.
