biography of Arnoldus Bloemers

Arnoldus Bloemers specialized in painting still lifes with flowers, fruits and dead game in the style of Jan van Huysum and Jan van Os. The painter grew flowers as a hobby, which meant that he had ample availability of his 'models'. His work is highly regarded, in particular due to the refined use of brushes and the great fidelity to nature. J. Immerzeel writes about him in his artist's lexicon (1855): 'His work is pleasing not only because of the loose and pleasant presentation and freshness of colors, but also because of the care that has been devoted to its execution.'
