biography of Auke de Vries

Auke de Vries is a well-known visual artist both in our country and abroad. He builds his metal objects into light, almost floating constructions, composed of lines and geometric shapes such as cones, cubes, cylinders and surfaces. He often uses architectural shapes that are reminiscent of birdhouses or tree houses. With his large sculptures for public space, the artist tries to connect street, architecture and infrastructure. Initially, Auke de Vries mainly worked on commission, from the nineties he also made free work that sometimes serves as a preliminary study for his monumental sculptures. This led to museum exhibitions in, among others, the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague, the Boijmans van Beuningen museum in Rotterdam and recently (2017) in the Beelden aan Zee museum.
