Burchard Theodoor Paets often worked in the vicinity of Ede, Renkum and Arnhem, where he mainly painted panoramic landscapes. Paets originally held a high position as a captain in the artillery. He therefore did not have an academic art education and taught himself the painting trade. In his spare time he painted many typical Dutch landscapes, often with a church tower, warehouse or windmill decorating his compositions.
