Charles Conway belonged to the group of English painters who continued to work in the Impressionist painting style into the twentieth century. For them, the beauty of the world around them was contained in the rendering of the light and of the atmosphere that surrounded things. Just like in France, the fashionable city life, summer parks, tea houses, the beach and the boulevard are their favorite subjects, painted with a quick brushstroke and in cheerful, bright colours.
