Kvapil was born in Antwerp but moved to France before the First World War, where he lived for the rest of his life. In Paris he moved in the circles of innovative painters such as Modigliani, Utrillo and Soutine. Initially he painted nudes and portraits, later also still lifes and landscapes, giving increasing priority to the lively expression of color and light. In 1927, 1928, 1929 and 1930, Kunsthandel Hofstee Deelman in Amsterdam devoted several exhibitions to the life and work of Kvapil. Museums: e.g. Museé d'Art Moderne in Paris.
