biography of Charles van den Eycken

Pupil of his father, Charles Sr. (1809-1891). He also took painting lessons at the Brussels Academy and with the animal painter Joseph Stevens, whose work shows a preference for the dog's portrait. Initially Van den Eycken painted interiors, but under the influence of Stevens he later applied himself to animal scenes. From 1881, the painter regularly exhibited at the Salons. He sometimes signed with 'Charles Duchêne'.
