The French painter and bon vivant Charly Devarennes settled in Collioure in the 1960s. Drawn by the clear Mediterranean light, he stayed for the next fifty years, living between the foothills of the Pyrenees and the seashore, his beach towel and his painter's easel always close to hand. Devarennes' pastels and paintings are animated by their warm colours and sunny subjects. His favourite scenes were the beaches dotted with Catalan fishing boats and sunbathers.
