attributed - The Zeeland painter David Kleyne painted romanticized realistic sea and river views. He was born in Bergen op Zoom, but lived most of his life in Middelburg, where traditionally many painters lived who devoted themselves to the seascape. As well as John. Hermanus Koekkoek and Hermanus Koekkoek Sr., he was well aware of the various Dutch ship types, their behavior on the water and the way in which people handled these ships.
