biography of Diederik Jan Singendonck

Diederik Jan Singendonck was an officer in the Prussian army until he was forced to give up his military career after serious injuries. He then devoted himself to painting finely elaborated still lifes with flowers, fruit and game according to the rules of the 18th-century stately still life, in which flowers and fruits were artfully arranged on a marble plinth. His paintings were particularly popular from 1820 onwards.
