biography of Jacobus Hendricus Mattheus 'Dom Jacques' van der Meij

The Benedictine monk Dom Jacques van der Meij was a painter, sculptor and glazier. His art was influenced by his faith: religious themes, performed in both a figurative and abstract style, predominate. Van der Meij was taught by Antoon Derkinderen and also studied at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. He made murals in churches and especially designs for stained glass windows. He lived and worked for most of his life in Oosterhout, where he was attached to the St. Paul's Abbey from 1911.
