American painter Dwight Clark Shepler grew up in Everett, Massachusetts and attended the Bosten Museum School of Fine Art after high school. In 1942, he became one of seven artists participating in the US Navy's officer-artist program. As a naval officer, he was sent to the Pacific, Normandy, and the Philippines to cover and photograph the war. In total, Schepler made more than 300 paintings of the war. After his discharge from the navy, he mainly painted landscapes and sports subjects.
