The Belgian Edgard Wiethase went to study at the art academy in Antwerp where he was taught by Piet Verhaert who painted genre scenes, cityscapes and portraits. The subjects of Wiethase's paintings vary greatly; from horses and still lifes to genre scenes and figures. He painted with a clear colour palette and occasionally luministic. For a long time he lived and worked in Antwerp, where he was also a member of the association 'Als ik Kan'. During his working period, his paintings were regularly shown in Belgium, including Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent.
