Emile-Pierre de la Montagne was famous for his genre scenes and flowers as well as for his wall paintings. He received his training at the academy of Antwerp, then specialized in monumental art at the academy of Brussels and then learned portrait painting in Paris. During a subsequent five-year stay in England, he received numerous portrait commissions. As a decorator, he took care of the wall paintings in Antwerp's town hall.
