The Austrian painter Erwin Hubert was active in the first half of the 20th century. Hubert, together with the Argentine painter and poet Adam Diehl, played an important role in the promotion of tourism in Mallorca. His watercolours were widely used by travel companies in the 1920s and 1930s. The sunny scenes he captured on the island - probably also on commission - were apparently considered very suitable for holiday posters and brochures. The artist mainly worked in watercolour, a technique he mastered superbly. In addition to landscapes and city scenes, Hubert was also a good figure painter.
