biography of Eugen Hamm

Eugen Hamm, painter and graphic artist, was born in 1885 in Apolda. He studied with Lovis Corinth in Berlin and in 1909 with Matisse in Paris, where he studied the great French impressionists. He then settled in Leipzig. Hamm was a member of the Deutschen Künstlerbund and regularly participated in their exhibitions. He also exhibited at the Flechtheim gallery in Düsseldorf. Eugen Hamm painted and watercoloured landscapes, figures, portraits, cityscapes and genre scenes in a colourful, impressionistic style. The painter's favorite colours were indigo blue and violet-rose, colours he regularly used in his work.
