Frans Hoos was born in 1884 in The Hague, the city where, with a few interruptions, he continued to live and work throughout his life. He was self-taught, was influenced by the painters of the Hague School but eventually found his own form of impressionism. His oeuvre includes landscapes around The Hague, dunes, polder land, cityscapes, harbuors and still lifes. In 1953 a series of French landscapes was created during a stay in France.
