The sculptor Frits Stapel lived and worked in The Hague all his life. He was educated there at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten and was a member of the Haagse Kunstkring (before 1969-after 1977) and Pulchri Studio (1969-1982). Stapel was mainly inspired by the human figure; he made portraits and female nudes in bronze, among other things. In 1974 he was awarded the Jacob Hartog Prize.
