biography of Georges Creten

Georges Creten is counted among the Belgian Fauvist, to which Rik Wouters and Edgard Tytgat also belonged. At a young age, from 1906 to 1907, he worked in Paris, where he became acquainted with Impressionism. After 1910 he combined this style with an interest in exuberant colours. He summarized reality in simple, powerful forms and a heavy impasto. His subjects were in line with Belgian Fauvism: interiors, still lifes, portraits and sun-drenched landscapes.
