Guido Paul Richter, born in 1859, received a solid education at the Royal Academy of Art in Dresden. Presumably under the influence of his teacher Leon Pohle he specialized in painting genre scenes from 1888 on. In addition to his work as a free artist, Richter was a teacher at the Saxon Cadet School in Dresden. He also liked to travel in Italy and taught for a number of years at the State Craft School in Lisbon, which explains his preference for bright light and a cheerful color palette.
