biography of 'Gustave' Léonard De Jonghe

Belgian painter of genre scenes and interiors. In 1855 De Jonghe moved to Paris, where he quickly made a name for himself as a painter of interiors with elegant young women. Like Alfred Stevens, he has a preference for painting precious fabrics and feminine beauty, which was in keeping with the light-footed French Second Empire. In 1884 the painter returned to Belgium.
