Hanny Korevaar is one of the Dutch expressionists from the very beginning. As early as 1918 she painted in her very own, unconventional style, in intense glowing colours, converting ideas and events from her life into images. The ever-recurring motifs and the sturdy shapes reveal the influence of Cubism and Chagall. Her work has long been known only to a small circle of collectors because she and her husband, Armand Bouten, mainly worked abroad (Budapest, Berlin, Paris) and did not participate in exhibitions.
