The German painter Hans Stubenrach has become widely known as an illustrator and painter of portraits and narrative genre pieces. From about 1907 he was a regular contributor to the satyrian magazines 'Meggendorfer Blätter' and 'Fliegenden Blätter', for which he made numerous humorous drawings and watercolours. The artist received a thorough education at the Munich Academy. His illustrations are not stylized, as with many contemporaries, but painted in a traditional, realistic style.
