biography of Johannes 'Hans' van Mastenbroek

During his short life, the painter Hans van Mastenbroek has built up a small but interesting oeuvre. He mainly painted landscapes, still lifes and portraits. After training at the academy in The Hague, he moved to Paris for a longer period of time in 1932. There, the work of the early cubist Juan Gris and later that of Picasso prompted him to style his subjects and use a pure and fresh colour scheme.
