Born the son of an educated bookseller, Heinrich Deiters was educated at the Dusseldorf Academy. Apart from 'realistic' landscapes, there was a strong preference for genre painting and in particular the fishing genre. Like Max Volkhart and Carl Mücke, Deiters made many trips to Scheveningen, where he painted the beach with the fishing boats and the fishing population. For this he used an impressionistic painting method and the tonal palette of the Hague School.
